“He is more preoccupied about the fate of the children who are far away and do not share in the full communion of affection. Such is the attitude of the Holy Father with regard to Chinese Catholics on both sides of the Strait of Taiwan. Since I am not a prophet, I cannot tell you what will happen in the future to our relations. As a true mother, the Church will not and cannot abandon her children, whatever country they may find themselves in.”
