“The falling is not a technique, Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t.”

“Being a world champion is a great thing, who now wears sponsored training gear emblazoned with ‘92.72.’ “Everyone looks at you.”

“At that point I didn’t want to do the javelin because there was no support, Support was for the 800 metres ... up to the marathon. They overlooked the field events.”

“My strength is my hand, It is flexible and elastic. Very nice.”

“When I saw the Javelin fly I knew it was a huge, huge, huge throw.”

“Javelin is the sport in me, part of my blood, I can’t sprint. I can’t compete in the 800 meters or the 100 meters. Javelin is the main talent I had.”

“We have some tremendous talent here [in Kenya], I just hope we are supported in the field events in the future and then maybe one day Kenya will be the home of the javelin throwers.”

“He is a brilliant coach, I still use the programme Petteri set me when I first met him. We created a good relationship and he is readily available to help me whenever I ask.”

“I saw that my technique was pathetic.”

“My personal inner desire and will to achieve the best I could drove me, I always wanted to be like a Kipchoge Keino [double Olympics gold medal winner] or Paul Tergat [former marathon world record holder] and all those other running icons, but to make a difference in the javelin. I wanted to open the way for the marginalised field events in Kenya because we have great talent there as well.”

“I used to watch the guys throw a wooden javelin at primary school and I had an inner feeling I could throw better [than them] if I tried, My brother [Henry Kiprono] was doing well in javelin, so I tried my luck.”
