“They brought in professional doctors who teach us about how to pronounce medical terms and procedures. As an actor you are expected to pronounce those words with confidence and they need to sound convincing. If I have to sleep singing those difficult terms I do it. I even watch international shows like Grey’s Anatomy, just to learn how doctors deal with issues”

“Through the show directors try to show that as much as you are educated there is nothing wrong with speaking your own language. Even doctors at the hospital speak a language that everyone can relate to. The aim of the show is to promote the sense of ubuntu among health workers. People are not treated well in health institutions and with Durban Gen we are saying you can make a hospital environment welcoming to patients”

“After helping the schoolchildren I started receiving calls from different directors. The first role I got, I did not even audition, they just gave me a script and I was lost. Wiseman was the one who was teaching me about camera angles”

“As I was acting, I realised that I can actually do this if I put my mind to it”

“When I got the role of Babekazi on Uzalo, I enjoyed it so much because it allowed me to portray someone who we all have in our families, who speaks their mind whether people want to hear it or not”

“After I had relocated to Joburg, someone approached me [with an offer] to volunteer at AFDA [a private higher education institution that offers courses in film, television, and performance], where I was acting with students.”
