Dominique Dunne

“Dominique had this sense of the world that everybody was equal, that you had to treat everybody gently and kindly. If she was working on a show, she was friends with the driver as well as the stars. – Gloria Gifford”

“Dominique was just this cute little sister to a friend of mine. She was super pretty little girl and she grew up to be beautiful, was a super responsible and kind human being. And something that she's been doing since she was a little kid was adopting animals. It was always a dog that was missing a leg or looked like it had some sort of horrible disease. – Charles B. Wessler”

“She had a very strong will, a very vibrant personality, a great sense of humor, you know, was very loved by her friends, just the joy of light of our eyes from, you know, the moment she was born. She had enormous talent as an actress. She was so devoted to my parents. – Griffin Dunne”

“Dominique was 19 but hadn't lost the talent to make me feel just as stupid and intimidated as she had when she was a little girl. She was born knowing who she was and what she wanted, and pity the fool who thought they could change her mind. My father used to call her Little Miss Bossy for the way she would order her older brothers around, demands that Alex and I not only didn’t mind but competed over.”

“"Are you crazy?" I'd yelled at her a year earlier when she called, thrilled with excitement and expecting me to be thrilled that she had decided to become an actress. [...] Dominique inherited the family Irish temper and would take on anyone if she felt cornered. Her disappointment in me, and her anger at my reaction, was volcanic, and we yelled back and forth until exhausting ourselves.”

“My sister had a knack for languages.”

“Hilarious, sweet, sarcastic about nearly everything, and very dedicated to her craft.”

“She was kind, funny and talented/very professional.”

“I think about her often.”

“She was great to work with, her death was such a tragedy.”

“She was a dear friend.”

“So she was somebody we were all a bit in awe of. She was always wise beyond her years. [...] But also a bit bossy. She always knew what she wanted. My brother and I were a little fearful of her. It was like she'd been born already built.”

“She was a serious, substantial person. "Serious about her acting, her animals, her family. And, actually, rather intimidating, even though she was the youngest of the family.”

“I studied art and Italian in Florence. While there I also taught English to small children. When I came to the States, I got a job as receptionist to the Italian Trade Commission here in Los Angeles. I was to answer the phone and type bi-lingually, but I was so bad at it I just humiliated myself. And then I drifted into acting.”

“I didn't want to compete with Griffin, who had already become an actor. So I tried to do everything else.”

“I think it's funny that you referred to me in "Poltergeist" as "the girl who nearly always has food hanging out of her mouth". My friends & family tease me a lot about that and I now have a reputation of being a glutton.”

“You have to be totally committed and dedicated to be an actress. You have to make up your mind that you want to do it and not let anything stop you.”
