Charlie Downes

“There are anti-Semitic and extreme racists at or near the top of the party, and they would have to go first. We’re happy to talk but we can’t do when there are people in the party like Charlie Downes.”

“You’re certainly less British if you’re not a believer in Christian principles. If somebody was Islamic then they are certainly less British.”

“Christianity is inextricable from Britain’s history and our national identity. In my view, a civilization is a series of covenants. First is marriage – the permanent union of one man and one woman before God. Marriage is the foundation of the household, which is a married couple with children and property. The household in turn should be considered the fundamental economic unity of society (as opposed to the individual, as liberals argue, or class, as socialists argue).”
